Joacira Dantas
SÃO PAULO

“I believe that the formation of educational groups is an important tool for collective discussion, acquisition of new knowledge, significant reflection, internal evaluation of participants and their ability to assume self care and autonomy in their own health conditions.”

Occupation: Senior Nurse, Project Einstein in Paraisopolis

Motivation to Apply for Komen Global Initiative Community Grant: Joacira found it impossible to ignore the information and facts she learned during Course for the Cure™. She remembers that her training gave her tools for evaluation and the ability to think more broadly and bigger about what could be done. After completing Course for the Cure, Joacira found other advocates and applied for a Komen Global Initiative Community Grant. With their proposal, they are hoping to reduce mortality and address the absence of education and awareness programs for women about breast health.

More about Joacira: Joacira is the senior nurse for Project Einstein in Paraisopolis. In this role she leads a team of nurses to work on health promotion and education with pregnant women, mothers with children under the age of 1, and women who need guidance around family planning. Joacira has been involved in community health since 1997 and believes that the breast cancer interventions taught in Course for the Cure™ have great potential to mobilize women, encourage self care, and really have an impact in communities such as Parasaipolis.
